Pilates and the Breast Cancer Survivor

It is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Do Pilates instructors have something to share with the 2.6 million survivors in the United States today?
Pilates is a holistic exercise system that has been proven beneficial  through recent research for breast cancer survivors.
Here are some ways that Pilates can help:
Costal breathing assists with lymphatic drainage due to activation of the transverse abdominas which facilitates lymphatic flow to the thoracic duct
The Pilates Principles keep one focused and tuned in to one's body after undergoing major surgery and treatment
Pilates increases proprioception and kinesthesia (one's awareness of your body in space) which can be decreased after injury or surgery
Pilates increases muscle strength in shoulder and arm  muscles often weak after surgery
Pilates improves scapula-humeral rhythm by strengthening the scapula stabilizers around the shoulder blade
It  can be a gentle introduction or re-introduction to exercise
Abdominal muscles  weak after breast reconstruction can be strengthened by the  Pilates emphasis upon the core.
Postural awareness can be improved after Pilates
